Galina Vishnevskaya

Galina Vishnevskaya (1926-2012) was a prominent Russian soprano renowned for her powerful voice and emotive performances. She specialized in opera and was particularly celebrated for her interpretations of Russian and Western classical music. Vishnevskaya gained international acclaim for her roles in operas by composers such as Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. Notable works include her performances in "Eugene Onegin" as Tatiana and "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" as Katerina. Her recording of Tchaikovsky's "Iolanta" is also highly regarded. Vishnevskaya was married to the famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and together they were influential figures in promoting Russian music worldwide.
